The uniqueness of Abruzzo is also reflected in its beverages, comprised of hidden gems you can only find in our beautiful territory.

Here we talk about the most distinctive ones.

  1.  VETRINO

The espresso version in a glass started being popular during the 90’s, based on the ideal properties of such material for unleashing the best coffee flavor.

Named “Caffe’ Marocchino” in northern Italy, the Vetrino has layers of cocoa powder, espresso and cream, topped by more cocoa powder, in a sort of a small size chocolate cappuccino.

  1.   WHITE AND ROSE’ WINES

The best complement to seafood dishes, Abruzzo is home to a distinctive variety of light and dry white and rose’ wines.

Find the best Trebbiano, Passerina, Pecorino or Cerasuolo (Rose’) and enjoy drinking what we call Abruzzo’ s lunch waters.

  1.   MONTEPULCIANO

Not to be confused with the homonym village in Tuscany, Montepulciano is a grape from our Abruzzo, which delivers deep color, powerfully tanned wines.

  1.   BOMBARDINO

A must during breaks on ski slopes, this invigorating boost is guaranteed to spike your energy up to the sky.

Made with brandy, milk and zabaione (eggnog), it is served hot in a short glass and it is the perfect substitute for espresso in cold, snowy weather (it works on sunny days as well😊)

  1.  GENZIANA

Campania has Limoncello, Sardinia has Mirto, Abruzzo has Genziana.

A unique digestif obtained by the skillful maceration of the Alpine gentiane root, it is the most popular drink to enjoy at the end of every meal in Abruzzo.

  1.  RATAFIA

Celebrated by poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, this sultry liquor made with sour cherries and Montepulciano wines is the perfect cordial to sweeter palates.

It is believed to be used in the past in lieu of a written contract for sanctioning blood pacts between people.

  1.  AURUM

Born in Pescara in 1925, this brandy and citrus infused liquor is used as a digestive, as a cocktail ingredient or even as an addition while making gelato.

  1.  CENTERBA

The Abruzzo “after-dinner drinks” tradition can not leave aside the most powerful and alcoholic liquor of all: the mighty Centerba.

With a minimum (yes, a minimum!) of 70% alcohol content, it is made by over 100 herbs found on Mount Maiella and believed to have restorative and healing properties.

Pace yourself with very short sips and enjoy this unique digestif, guaranteed to blow your mind end re-empty your stomach.
